Liz Burns

Liz’s two biggest passions in life are fitness and helping people achieve their goals. Liz is also very determined. She moved from AZ to upstate New York at age 15 to pursue an Olympic Dream in the sport of Judo. Fast-forward 4 years, and with a lot of hard work, she was the Alternate @ 52kg for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

That was the start of Liz’s fitness journey. From there, Liz entered Corporate America and it just wasn’t her cup of tea. Luckily, she found CrossFit in 2008. Shortly after, she left her job in the corporate world and started managing and coaching at a gym in Culver City. Those experiences lead her to start DogTown CrossFit with co-owners Dusty Hyland and Adam Noble in 2010.

In 2013, Liz had the opportunity to move to Scottsdale, AZ and manage/ coach at Optimum Performance Training (OPT now OPEX) to evolve her fitness journey even further.

Liz is currently back in Los Angeles running a Corporate Wellness program in Malaysia and is excited to join the coaching staff at Depot CrossFit.

  • Quote: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters, you’ll know it when you find it.” – Steve Jobs

  • Favorite Workout: Anything long with running, like Eva / Least Favorite Workout:Anything short and fast, like Elizabeth. I know it’s my name, but I don’t like it. I don’t like Fran or any of the other short, nasty workouts.

  • Favorite Movement: I like heavy cleans. I like the feeling when you hit it just right and it feels almost effortless. As a woman, it’s empowering to feel strong and the clean just makes me feel good. Like wow, I just moved all that. What else can I accomplish?!

  • Favorite Cheat Meal: Gluten free pizza and anything chocolate. Like Haagen-Daz Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream. BOMB!

  • Interesting Fact about Liz: I was an OIympic Alternate in 2004 for the USA Judo Team.

  • Favorite Super Hero: Batman! I used to love Batman as a kid and I even had a Batman comforter for my bed. I don’t really know why I loved it so much. He just seemed so cool. He fought evil and had cool cars and toys while doing it.
